UQ-led team awarded $2.7m to advance health services for older Australians

16 December 2025

A University of Queensland team has been awarded $2.7 million from the National Health and Medical Research Council to improve the health experiences of older Australians.

Professor Ruth Hubbard will lead a collaborative project called EMPOWER to design a Frailty Response Framework aimed at reducing emergency department visits and hospitalisations.

The five-year project brings together health service providers, research partners, and metropolitan, regional and remote community groups to create practical solutions that improve care and quality of life for older people.

The Targeted Call for Research (TCR) into Addressing the Needs of People with High Healthcare Service Utilisation scheme promotes research centring the voices of people who rely most on health services.
