Vale Emeritus Professor Margaret Bullock AM

13 March 2026

The University community is deeply saddened by the passing of former UQ staff member Emeritus Professor Margaret Bullock AM on 16 January 2026.

As a former Head of the Physiotherapy Department, President of the Academic Board and the first foundation chair in physiotherapy in Australia, Professor Bullock made an enduring contribution to advancing UQ’s health sciences.

Professor Bullock was a pioneer in her fields of physiotherapy and ergonomics – informing global knowledge and safer design standards for everyday tools and equipment – and a strong advocate for innovation in research and education.

Her connection with UQ extended more than 70 years, beginning when she graduated as one of the first people to receive a degree in physiotherapy in Australia – and later, the first to be awarded a PhD.

Professor Bullock leaves a profound legacy, which continues through the Margaret Bullock Prize to support the next generation of physiotherapists.

The UQ community extends its condolences to Professor Bullock’s family and friends.
