UQ researcher elected Fellow of prestigious Royal Society

29 May 2026

A University of Queensland researcher has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for advancing understanding of proteins in the immune system.

Professor Bostjan Kobe, from UQ’s School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, is among 90 researchers worldwide elected to the UK’s national academy of sciences.

Fellows of the Royal Society represent the highest level of scientific achievement, recognised for discoveries that benefit society.

Professor Kobe’s research uses cutting-edge technologies to uncover how proteins function in the body, particularly in disease resistance and immunity.

The team studies proteins in detail to understand their structure and behaviour, using techniques such as X-ray crystallography to reveal 3D structures.
