The University of Queensland will offer students considering UQ Ipswich courses in 1999 a further opportunity to consolidate their thinking before the September 30 Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre cutoff date for applications.

The University will hold a courses information evening at Bremer High School Community Hall on Wednesday, September 16 at 7pm.

UQ Ipswich campus manager Warren Kerswill said that deciding on a potential future career was one of the most difficult choices a person could make in a lifetime. The University felt it would be helpful to provide a further opportunity to assist students in the final stages of decision-making about tertiary courses next year.

Mr Kerswill will discuss developments at the state-of-the-art campus, which opens for its first student intake in February, 1999. Course program leaders will be available to discuss offerings in 1999 and the year 2000.

UQ Ipswich courses from 1999 will include the bachelor of information environments, bachelor of electronic commerce, bachelor of business (communication), bachelor of contemporary studies, bachelor of social science (applied communication and development studies), bachelor of education (graduate entry), and bachelor of behavioural studies. The first year of the new bachelor of business (leisure management) will be offered at the Bremer TAFE in 1999. From 2000 all years of the course will be offered at UQ Ipswich.

Mr Kerswill said a UQ Ipswich courses day at Ipswich Civic Hall on September 6 had been a great success, and despite being Father's Day, had attracted hundreds of "solid" enquiries from Year 12 and mature-aged students.

"Course information sessions were very popular, and students remained to discuss subject selections with the lecturers afterwards," he said.

The UQ Ipswich campus also attracted many face-to-face enquiries at the UQ Ipswich stand at TSXPO earlier this year with further enquiries received at the faculties' stands for UQ Ipswich courses. The University distributed campus and course information to more than 900 potential students at the University's recent Courses and Careers Day at St Lucia.
