Free Health and Medical Research Expo

A free Health and Medical Research Expo will be held at the Queensland Sciencentre from May 31 to June 1 as part of Medical Research Week 1998 (May 31 to June 5).

Twenty-three Queensland research groups, institutions and foundations will highlight their work and answer questions from the public. The event will be opened by Queensland Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty at noon on Sunday, May 31.

Professor Ian Frazer of the University of Queensland and Professor Ian Lowe of Griffith University will give public lectures.

Exhibitors include the University of Queensland's School of Pharmacy and departments of Biochemistry, Physiotherapy and Physiology and Pharmacology, the Royal Brisbane Hospital Foundation, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland and the Queensland Institute of Medical Research.

Organised by the Australian Society for Medical Research, Medical Research Week aims to highlight significant breakthroughs achieved by Australian researchers and show the public how medical research is carried out and how the results impact on their lives.
