Planning commences for UQ Ipswich Orientation events

UQ Ipswich has begun the countdown to Orientation Week commencing Monday, February 15, according to campus manager Warren Kerswill.

Planned activities range from formal academic functions to a market day, special course days and cultural events.

On the evening of Monday, February 15, 1999, the campus will host a function to welcome parents and friends of commencing students.

On Tuesday, February 16, University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Trevor Grigg will welcome students to UQ Ipswich.

It will be a busy day, with sessions on academic programs and later in the day, an Ipswich Civic Hall reception, where Ipswich Mayor John Nugent is expected to welcome students to Ipswich city. A market day is also being planned.

On Wednesday, February 17, students can undertake library tours, complete with training sessions, and visit the Student Centre to complete administrative tasks such as obtaining student cards.

On Thursday, February 18, UQ Ipswich in conjunction with the Ipswich Events Corporation is planning afternoon and evening social and cultural events. Students can also attend academic program sessions on February 18 and February 19.

Professor Grigg said an Orientation Week organising committee chaired by Mr Kerswill had been established featuring representatives from each academic program, the Library, Student Support Services, UQ Sport and the Student Union.

"Academic and general staff and student representatives are working closely to make O Week at UQ Ipswich a big success," he said.
