Parents' Day

15 January 1999

The University of Queensland will give parents of new students a preview of university life with a Parents' Day at St Lucia campus on Sunday, February 14. A Parents' Evening will be held at the new Ipswich campus on Monday, February 15.

The University's Dean of Students, Dr Lisa Gaffney, said Parents' Day was an opportunity for parents to see what goes on at the University.

"Executive Deans and other academics will talk about the programs that will be offered," Dr Gaffney said.

"Parents will be able to visit the Library and see the wide range of other student facilities and support services."

Parents will be able to tour the campus, see the University's facilites and talk to representatives of the faculty where their son or daughter will be studying.

Invitations to Parents' Day will be included with Orientation material sent to new students at the end of January. Parents Day organisers have arranged special discount accommodation for people outside Brisbane attending the day.

Student Orientation programs will be held at the St Lucia and Ipswich campuses from Monday, February 15, to Friday, February 19, and at Gatton College campus on February 18 and 19.

The University of Queensland this year will have 28,500 students enrolled in 5000 subjects in 400 courses across the three campuses.

Parents or students seeking information about Parents' Day or Orientation week can telephone 3365 7560. For information about the discount accommodation, telephone 3365 9168.
