Marine pollution discussed at free UQ lecture

The impact of contamination transported from rivers and sewage outfalls on the marine environment will be discussed at a free public lecture at the University of Queensland on October 26.

The lecture will also discuss the importance of implementing commercial projects to study these environmental issues.

Senior Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation Dr Peter Airey will present the UQ Chemical Society's Dillon Steele Lecture in room 1118, the Chemistry Department, St Lucia, at 4pm.

Dr Airey will discuss an Australian-led marine project supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the UN Development Programme.

The Dillon Steele Lecture commemorates UQ's foundation Professor of Chemistry, Bertram Dillon Steele, one of the original four professors appointed to the University. Professor Steele was also the first president of the University's Professorial Board (now known as the Academic Board) and chaired the Royal Commission on Prickly Pear, once a scourge in Queensland.
