UQ Librarian wins prestigious library award
The University of Queensland Librarian Janine Schmidt has been named Library Manager of the Year by the Australian Library and Information Association .
Mrs Schmidt was presented with the award on November 29.
Under Mrs Schmidt's management, the UQ library achieved the highest score possible in all categories of the 1998 Commonwealth higher education management survey of Commonwealth libraries.
The library also won an institutional Australian Award for University Teaching in 1998 for its Cybrary concept.
The Cybrary is the Library's website which provides a single interface to all collections and services including access to more than 3000 electronic journals. With an integrated library management system and flexible staffing, University library clients have 24 hour access to library services.
Mrs Schmidt has also developed teaching partnerships between the library and the medical, engineering and social work departments and has developed joint services with the Mater and the Princess Alexandra Hospital libraries and the Gatton Centenary Learning Centre.
Mrs Schmidt shares the Library manager of the year award with Deakin University librarian Sue McKnight.
