UQ makes mid-year offers for Australian and international student places
The University of Queensland has made more than 300 offers in the first Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre mid-year-offer round for Australian students, and is expecting a record number of international mid-year enrolments.
University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) Professor Trevor Grigg said the University had posted offers for successful Australian applicants on Friday for places at its St Lucia, Gatton and Ipswich campuses for entry to second semester 2000.
"We're also expecting a 68 percent increase in mid-year international undergraduate enrolments and 64 percent increase in total international postgraduate enrolments this year," he said. "We should know final numbers by the second week of semester in late July.
"This clearly shows the Asian currency crisis is over and reflects the strength of UQ's programs and our international marketing initiatives.
"Much of the interest is coming from the United States, Singapore, Malaysia and Norway."
Professor Grigg said the Study Abroad program in particular had enjoyed massive student increases, up from 250 students in 1997 to 800 students this year.
For Australian students, the University has made almost 70 offers for entry to UQ Ipswich (22.9 percent of total offers). The largest number was in the Business, Economics and Law Faculty (47 offers).
The OP/Rank cutoffs for St Lucia/Gatton programs remained around OP8/Rank 86. Cut-offs were UQ Ipswich were the same as first semester, around OP12-14/Rank 70 to 72.
Further offers will be made for the final QTAC round on July 4 for well-qualified applicants who satisfy the entry requirements for the first round. Late applications to QTAC are welcome but will incur a processing fee. The applications should include all certified copies of students' qualifications.
Classes re-commence at UQ on July 10, with orientation program activities from Wednesday July 5 (St Lucia and Ipswich) and July 7 (Gatton). Orientation details are on the web at: www.uq.edu.au/o-week-midyear/
