UQ Ipswich degree attracts record enrolment

5 February 2001

About a quarter of the University of Queensland's first-year commerce students will descend on UQ Ipswich next month to begin Bachelor of Electronic Commerce degrees.

The degree was launched just two years ago as an Australian first and first preferences this year have skyrocketed from 53 last December to more than 100 by the end of January. The University made 114 offers this year as compared with 75 at the same time last year.

The popularity of the Bachelor of Electronic Commerce confirms its relevance to current and future generations of business practice, according to program director Dr Peter Green
.
"The degree teaches people how to use, rather than create, the technology," he said.

"We have subjects such as analysis and design of application software for an e-commerce environment, but that's different from the design and development of data communications protocols.

"We also offer subjects such as the law of electronic commerce and marketing on the commercial Internet."

The first graduates will receive their degrees at a ceremony in December this year.
