More good news for UQ Gatton
The number of new international students commencing study at the University of Queensland’s Gatton Campus has increased by over 50%.
The increase of around 54% over last year’s first semester intake was revealed this week as student enrolments for the Campus were close to being finalised.
This follows on from recent news that the number of new Australian students studying at the Campus has increased along with the Overall Position (OP) scores for entry into the undergraduate programs.
UQ Gatton Campus Manager, Stephen Weller, said that the increase in international students was an important step for the Campus.
“This adds to the diversity of the Campus and fosters a more global perspective among our Australian students,” said Mr Weller.
“An important outcome of attracting international students is that many of them, particularly those from developing countries, are often able to make a real contribution to improving systems and practices in their home countries.”
The commencing students hail from almost every continent with countries such as Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Philippines topping the list.
“While most come from south-east Asia, we are also attracting students from Africa, America and India”
According to Mr Weller, the Campus’ location in a tropical sub-tropical region provided UQ Gatton with a distinct advantage over many other Australian universities when it came to education in agricultural and natural resource management.
“The programs on offer at UQ Gatton are among the best of their kind in the world and there is an increasing awareness of this by overseas students,” said Mr Weller.
Programs at UQ Gatton are offered in the areas of agribusiness, agriculture and horticulture, animal studies and environmental management.
