UQ Study Expo and Open Day at St Lucia

Visitors to the University of Queensland this weekend will be given the opportunity to read a TV news bulletin, walk through a wind tunnel and watch scenes from a Shakespearean play.

There will also be an opportunity to meet members of the HyShot team, which attempted the world’s first atmospheric test flight of a scramjet engine at the Woomera Prohibited Range earlier this week.

These are just some of the activities available to members of the public who attend the UQ Study Expo and Open Day at the St Lucia campus from 9am to 4pm on Sunday August 4.

“The Study Expo and Open Day is a chance for prospective students, their families and their friends to speak to UQ teaching staff and to get to know more about UQ study programs,” said Dean of Students Dr Lisa Gaffney.

“And furthermore, the Open Day provides a chance to discover other important aspects of campus life, such as places to eat, accommodation, sporting facilities and transport,” Dr Gaffney said.

Activities will take place across the St Lucia campus, and the Study Expo display will be held in the recently completed UQ Centre.

The program includes;

 Presentations on specific degrees and programs;
 Presentations on career planning and mature age entry options;
 Tours of the UQ Cybrary (Library);
 Public lectures by Dr Allan Paull and Professor John Simmons on this week’s HyShot scramjet experiment at 9.30am in the UQ Centre and 1.15pm in the Hawken Engineering Building. Some remains of the HyShot experiments will also be on display at the UQ Centre;
 Tours of other campus facilities including the UQ Veterinary School Small Animal Clinic and Hospital, Journalism and Communications newsroom, Civil Engineering wind tunnel, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Studies Unit, Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis and UQ’s Information Environment;
 Access to University museums;
 Robotic demonstrations; and
 Performances by the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble.
