UQ appoints Boeing Chair of Systems Engineering

20 August 2002

The University of Queensland has announced the selection of Professor Peter Lindsay to serve as the Boeing Chair of Systems Engineering.

Professor Lindsay is currently Deputy Director of the Software Verification Research Centre at The University of Queensland. He is a leading authority in risk analysis and the integrity of software-based systems.

Professor Lindsay was awarded his PhD from The University of Illinois in Mathematical Logic in 1984. He graduated a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in mathematics from The University of Melbourne in 1979 and in 1981 graduated with a Masters of Science in Pure Mathematics.

Professor Andrew Lister, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Architecture said Professor Lindsay was selected from a competitive field of international candidates.

“Professor Lindsay will take on a key leadership role in developing teaching and research in Systems Engineering – one of the few such programs in Australia,” he said.

The Boeing Company provided $1.55M to fund the chair position at The University of Queensland in Brisbane as part of Boeing`s ongoing commitment to higher education and Australia`s "Wedgetail" 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system program.

Australia has contracted for four 737 AEW&C systems. Boeing expects to deliver the first two aircraft in 2006.
