Forum explores new trends in human ageing research

22 October 2002

A wealth of ageing-related issues in myriad disciplines will be up for discussion at a one-day forum at Customs House, Queen Street, Brisbane on Monday, November 25.

The ERA (Emerging Researchers in Ageing) 2002 forum is the brainchild of the Australasian Centre on Ageing, a collaborative research initiative by the University of Queensland and the Seniors Interests Unit, Department of Families, Queensland.

ERA 2002 will showcase new, diverse research talent confronting dozens of critical issues and emerging trends in ageing research.

Discussion will centre on social policy (attitudes, independence, housing, euthanasia), communication and memory, economics (the “seachange” debate, retirement income systems, transitions into retirement villages), health risks, exercise and body image, and aged care --– with topics ranging from architecture and healthy ageing to ways of countering future disputes over wills.

Professor Gary Andrews, Director of the Centre for Ageing Studies at Flinders University, will be the keynote speaker.

Registration ($35 including light lunch, tea and coffee breaks) closes on Friday, November 8.

For more information, contact the ERA Forum Coordinator, Australasian Centre on Ageing (telephone 07 3346 9084, fax 07 3365 7503, email aca@uq.edu.au).
