Students wait for major round offers to get into UQ
Students wanting to study at UQ should look out for several important dates over the next few weeks.
University of Queensland Admissions Manager Claron Driscoll said the enrolment packages for the major round offers made through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) would be mailed on Friday, January 10.
Students receiving offers in the major round have until Tuesday, January 21 to respond by phoning 1900 971 130.
Students can also telephone the same number on Thursday, January 9 (after 1 am) to find out if they have been offered a place Ms Driscoll said.
Ms Driscoll said people who were not offered a place in their preferred programs should not be too concerned as a number of alternative pathways existed for improving their chances to enter their desired program at a later date.
She said applicants with the prerequisite subjects but not the entry scores necessary for their preferred programs had several options to improve their chances of gaining places.
“UQ’s Admissions section can advise you on alternative pathways to improve your position,” she said.
“Students who miss out on getting into their preferred programs should note that after completing one full-time year of tertiary level study in another program, a new entry score is allocated to them on the basis of the grades they have achieved during the year of tertiary study and we don’t look at their OP from school anymore.”
Those wanting to change their preferences through QTAC for consideration in the Wednesday, February 5 offer round have until Tuesday, January 21 to do so using QTAC’s Applicant Online Services or the 1900 phone service.

UQ Planning Director Lindsay Parker said the University expected to make almost 7800 offers to potential first year students in this year’s QTAC major offer round; about 200 offers less than last year. Mr Parker said increased demand for entry to the University’s programs and increased competition because of reduced offer numbers at other institutions meant that cut-off scores for entry to many programs were likely to rise by one OP band or more from last year’s levels.
Ms Driscoll said the UQ programs with the highest cut-off results in the QTAC offers were likely to include veterinary science, dentistry, physiotherapy and dual degrees with law. As in past years many of the school leavers with OP 1 results are likely to enter the University’s engineering and science programs.
