New UQ community education program

27 June 2003

New courses in practical law and computing will join old-time favourites Fending Off Forgetfulness and English Grammar Refresher in the latest University of Queensland community education program.

UQ’s Institute of Continuing and TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ) has been running community courses for nearly 20 years and the new program will begin in mid-July.

“The courses are designed to offer members of the public the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in a variety of areas without formal entry requirements,” said course coordinator Tina Fiegel.

“Courses offer personal, social, vocational and technical education and range from a two-hour session on Buying a Computer to a five-day nationally-recognised Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.”

As well as the new four-evening Practical Law for Daily Life, other new courses include Getting that Job in the Public Sector and Astrological Philosophy.

The program will also offer popular sell-out favourites such as A Beginner’s Guide to Philosophy and The Mysteries of Quantum Physics.

The majority of classes will be held at UQ’s St Lucia campus and most are scheduled for evenings or weekends. Four courses will also be held at UQ Ipswich – Using English Effectively, Assignment Writing, Workload & Time Management and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.

Prices start from $35.20 and a 20 percent reduction is available for pensioners, full-time students and those receiving unemployment benefits.
