Chariots of Fire at UQ

10 May 2005

The Great Court Race, one of The University of Queensland`s most prestigious annual sporting traditions, will be held tomorrow (Wednesday May 11) at the St Lucia campus.

A strong field of athletes will be out to make history when they line up for the 21st annual race, based on the Cambridge University Race featured in the film Chariots of Fire.

The challenge for competitors is to finish before the University bell tolls 12 times to be assured of a race record.

Queensland State 1500m Champion Mitch Kealey will aim for his first win, while Daina Surka will chase a rare hat-trick of titles.

Other events include the handicapped sprint race, intercollegiate relays and novelty college race.

The Great Court Race festivities will begin at 1pm with the sprint race finals, followed by the men`s and women`s Inter College Relay, then the open women`s final at 1.30pm and the open men`s final at 1.40pm.

Unisupplies.com.au and STA Travel St Lucia are major sponsors for the 21st annual Great Court Race.
