UQ showcases programs at TSXPO

11 July 2005

Staff from The University of Queensland will attend the 2005 Tertiary Studies Expo (TSXPO) to help prospective students identify the degree program that best matches their talents and aspirations.

The annual event, where UQ representatives will provide the latest information on tertiary studies and career pathways, will take place at the RNA Showgrounds on July 16 and 17 between 10am and 4pm.

UQ`s Dean of Students Dr Lisa Gaffney said people wanting to take up further study were often swamped by information about different courses, programs and career paths.

“What we are able to do at TSXPO is to make life easier for prospective students by clearly explaining the options that are available,” Dr Gaffney said.

During TSXPO, staff from UQ`s academic schools, admissions, and accommodation services will be on hand to offer advice on both undergraduate and postgraduate options. New programs available in 2006 will include the Bachelor of Health Science at UQ Ipswich and the Bachelor of Business.

“TSXPO is a good opportunity for people to sample the range and depth of UQ programs and to ask questions about everything from accommodation, admissions, program content and entry requirements, to campus facilities,” Dr Gaffney said.

The University will also hold further education and career seminars during the event.

Seminar topics will include: Getting ahead in business; Economics demystified; Tourism and hotel management; The business of sport and leisure management and Why choose Law?

Dr Gaffney said the seminars would provide prospective students with more detailed information about possible career paths and the particular area of study they were interested in.

UQ offers more than 400 degree programs and 6000 courses providing a rich range of study offerings.

“Very often students know what they want to study but are unsure about which programs line up to their area of interest. This is where TSXPO can help,” Dr Gaffney said.

“Students can then follow this up by visiting all three University campuses at St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton, during the open days in August.”

For further information about enrolling at the University, visit www.uq.edu.au/study or contact UQ Admissions (telephone 07 3365 2203).

The University of Queensland will hold Open Days during August at which time potential students can meet UQ staff, attend presentations on study areas and careers, tour the campuses, libraries and museums, and take part in a range of activities. The St Lucia Open Day on August 7 (9am-4pm) and the lunchtime information session at Customs House on August 10 (11.30am-2.30pm) will have information on all undergraduate and postgraduate programs across all UQ campuses. The Ipswich Open Day on August 21 (10am-2pm) will focus on Ipswich programs and the Gatton Open Day on August 28 (9.30am-3pm) will concentrate on Gatton programs. While all Open Days have information about postgraduate programs, a special Postgraduate Expo will be held at the UQ Centre at the St Lucia campus on August 8 (3pm-6pm).
