Ready to race the Challinor Chase

29 July 2005

Students at The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus are set to dust off their runners to race the campus’ annual Campus Challinor Chase next month.

Based on the popular tradition of the Great Court Race at UQ’s St Lucia Campus, the Challinor Chase will cover a loop course in the heart of the Ipswich Campus grounds.

Open to students and staff, the sprint race will feature a men’s and women’s relay, a faculty relay and an open men’s and women’s race.

Event Organiser Natalie Moore said the Challinor Chase was hoped to become a true community event for students at the Ipswich Campus.

“With the Ipswich Campus’ population blossoming, it’s fantastic to see many students getting into the spirit of fostering new sporting traditions which will hopefully carry into the future,” Ms Moore said.

UQ Ipswich Bachelor of Business Event Management student and Challinor Chase Co-organiser Kate Dyson said that the event had helped to bring the student community together.

Kate is heading up a team of volunteers from her Event Management major who are assisting in the organisation of the Challinor Chase and are excited about the opportunity to apply practical experience to the theory learnt through their degree.

“We’ve been learning a lot and have made some new friendships preparing for this event,” she said.

Sponsored by UQ Sport and UQ Ipswich, the Challinor Chase will be held in the ‘heart’ of the Ipswich Campus, the area bordered between buildings 8 and 12 on Wednesday, August 10.

Entry is free with registrations closing on Monday, 8 August.

Students will compete for a variety of cash prizes and incentives, and will help to celebrate this new tradition for the Ipswich Campus.

The Challinor Chase festivities, which include a free barbecue, will begin at 12 noon.

Registration and further information is available by visiting UQ Sport at the Ipswich Campus in Building 10, telephone 3346 7242 or visit www.uqsport.uq.edu.au
