UQ MBA students talk leadership

22 August 2005

UQ Business School’s MBA Leadership Workshop in August will feature Queensland Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson and Q-Super CEO Rosemary Vilgan.

Commissioner Bob Atkinson was appointed Commissioner of Police on November 1, 2000. He has served throughout the State from Goondiwindi to Cairns – performing a wide range of operational and managerial roles.

Leading an organisation of approximately 9000 police officers and a further 3000 staff, Commissioner Atkinson is uniquely placed to comment on the relationship between organizational authority and authentic leadership.

Workshop organizer Professor Ken Wiltshire said Commissioner Atkinson would speak on Saturday, August 27 with Rosemary Vilgan to address students on Sunday, August 28.

“I’m delighted to welcome two such high profile leaders to address our final-year MBA students – many of whom will end up in senior leadership positions themselves,” he said.

“Rosemary Vilgan was a State finalist in the Community and Government Category of the 2004 Telstra Business Women’s Awards. More than 2700 nominations were received for the awards, and Vilgan was one of just 24 finalists in Queensland.”

Named one of the world’s top movers and shakers in global superannuation industry in 1998, Vilgan oversees the Government superannuation program involving assets in excess of $30 billion for over 430,000 members.

The MBA Leadership Workshop is the final core subject of the MBA program and features two outstanding business or community leaders. The Workshop in first semester 2005 featured Robyn Sullivan, Director-General of Queensland’s Department of Child Safety, and David Gray, Managing Director of Boeing Australia.
