Incident at St Lucia campus

24 October 2005

Two people have been taken to hospital following a suspected, but unconfirmed, gas leak at the Goddard Building at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus today.

The incident occurred in a third floor lab where entomologists are studying fumigants to protect stored grain from insects.

A student complained of feeling unwell at 7.20am today, followed by a staff member.

A small number of people were evacuated from the building, which was declared a HAZCHEM site.

Five of six classes to have been held in the building were relocated to nearby buildings.

The University is assisting Queensland Workplace Health and Safety, Queensland Police and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service in their investigations and thanks them for their quick response.
