Volunteers needed for heel pain research

4 April 2006

Researchers at The University of Queensland (UQ) are asking for volunteers to take part in a study looking at heel pain.

Heel pain located under the sole of the foot is a common complaint and it affects many people.

Different structures may cause the pain and to date little is known about the characteristics of this pain, how to evaluate it and how to treat it.

UQ’s Division of Physiotherapy is conducting the research with the main purpose of investigating the characteristics of pain in patients with heel pain and to recommend the most appropriate clinical tests. Possible follow up research will compare different treatments.

Volunteers are eligible to participate in the research if they are between 18 and 60 years-old, male or female, and have had pain under the sole of the heel for 6 weeks or longer.

Volunteers will not be suitable for this research project if they have any of the following problems in the last 2 years: wide-spread leg pain; sciatica; fractures of the lower limb bones; or rheumatoid arthritis.

Specific novel tests will be used in this research and will be conducted for approximately two hours over two sessions.

Volunteers can contact Ali Alshami on 3346 7465 (voicemail number, please leave your message) or email a.alshami@shrs.uq.edu.au.
