Is Australia’s Future Nuclear?
Three leading authorities will discuss the benefits and pitfalls of nuclear energy at a free public meeting to be held at The University of Queensland tomorrow night (May 3).
Professor Ian Plimer, a mining geologist, Professor Ian Lowe from the Australian Conservation Foundation and Dr Ian Smith, a nuclear scientist, will address issues such as the possibility of safe storage of nuclear waste and how to stop uranium being processed for use in bombs.
Members of the public will be able to put questions to the experts.
The meeting, to be held at Lecture Theatre 1, Hawken Engineering Building (Building 50), St Lucia campus, will be chaired by Don Nicklin, AO, Chair of CRCMining and Chair of the Queensland Division of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, which is sponsoring the event.
This meeting will run from 6pm to 8pm.
