Nurses needed for research

11 May 2006

With nurses around the world celebrating International Nurses Day (Thursday, May 11), University of Queensland (UQ) researchers are hoping to better understand what makes them tick.

Nurses make up 50 percent of the entire Australian health care workforce and are critical to the health and welfare of all Australians.

Unfortunately, there is currently a critical shortage of qualified nurses in Australia and we need to better understand how to recruit and retain our nurses to have a viable nursing workforce.

Researchers from UQ’s School of Nursing have established a longitudinal research project – Nurses & Midwives e-cohort – in order to describe and quantify factors associated with recruitment and retention in the workforce and subsequent patterns of employment.

All nurses and midwives in Australia are welcome to visit the study website and join this electronic study.

If you are a nurse or you know a nurse please visit www.e-cohort.net and consider joining the nurses & midwives e-cohort study and contributing to the information we need to maintain a happy and health nursing workforce.

Give about 40 minutes of your time annually to complete an online survey that will examine workforce and health outcomes for Nurses & Midwives in Australia and New Zealand.
