UQ dominates national moot final

UQ has swept the pool at the national final of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Students from UQ�s TC Beirne School of Law took overall honours in the final held at the High Court of Australia in Canberra last week.

On the way to victory, the team won all seven of its moots, and in addition, the team�s three main advocates made a clean sweep of prizes for first, second and third best oralists in the preliminary rounds.

Jessica Howley (BA/LLB) won the best oralist award, Laura Grant (BA/LLB) took second place and third place went to Belinda McRae (BA/LLB). Other members of the victorious team were Anthony Bremner (BA/LLB) and Angus O�Brien (BA/LLB).

The victory will enable the UQ team to compete at the competition�s international final held in Washington in March.

The Jessup Moot Court Competition places students as representatives in a dispute before the International Court of Justice, in the largest competition of its kind in the world.

UQ has demonstrated a tradition of excellence in the competition with the UQ team reaching the international final the last three years, winning in 2005.
