It takes all sorts…

At UQ Business School’s CEO Summit today, leaders from corporate Australia, not-for-profits, media, and arts organisations will share their wisdom and experience with their peers.

This year’s theme Leadership Allsorts acknowledges the contribution of leaders from all sectors of the economy.

Opening proceedings will be Kim Williams, CEO of Foxtel. Mr Williams was Chief Executive of the Australian Film Commission before leaving to set up Southern Star Entertainment. He also established the Australian Film Finance Corporation, and spent three years as a senior executive at the ABC.

The second session is a panel discussion – on surviving turbulent times – led by The Smith Family CEO Elaine Henry (recently identified as a True Leader by Boss Magazine) and Managing Director of The Queensland Orchestra Michael P. Smith.

Over lunch, participants will hear from experienced business journalist and Managing Editor of BRW Peter Roberts on what makes a great leader.

Head of UQ Business School Professor Tim Brailsford said he was grateful to all the presenters for making time to speak at the CEO Summit.

“The Summit presents a rare opportunity for C-suite executives to hear from respected leaders, network with their peers, and take time out to reflect on their own leadership challenges and successes,” he said.

“In the afternoon, we look more closely at the personal stories of two very different leaders.”

“Conducted by a professional journalist, the interviews provide a fascinating insight and a nice counterpoint to the somewhat more formal sessions in the morning,” he said.

The first interview features CEO of Absolute Data Group and QBR Business Woman of the Year Tammy Halter. Ms Halter started her business with $500 and now has a list of clients including Boeing, Daimler Chrysler, Australian Defence Industries, NRMA, and Virgin Blue.

The final interview is with Darryl Somerville, Chairman of the Brisbane Broncos and former head of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Brisbane.

UQ Business School’s CEO Summit now in its fourth year, is being held at UQ Business School Downtown, 345 Queen Street.
