Incident at St Lucia campus

2 May 2008

A female office worker who was unwell this afternoon after complaining of an odd smell at the eight-level Gehrmann Building at the UQ St Lucia campus has been taken to hospital.

The incident occurred at the Centre for Magnetic Resonance (CMR), on level two of the building, at about 2.56pm.

About 100-150 people from research centres including the CMR and the Centre for Marine Studies, were safely evacuated, and the building was temporarily closed.

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) attended.

The University’s Occupational Health and Safety Unit worked with the QFRS Scientific Unit to determine the cause, which is yet unknown.

Shortly before 5pm the QFRS gave the building an all-clear and occupants were able to return.
