Expand your mind at UQ this summer

If you’re looking for an interesting challenge this summer and want to extend your knowledge, than why not apply for a UQ Summer Research Scholarship?

Offered during mid-November to mid-February, the scholarships provide an opportunity for UQ and non-UQ undergraduate students to gather insight into the research process and obtain hands-on experience in a supportive environment.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) Professor Deborah Terry said scholarships would be offered across various disciplines including science, engineering, humanities, health and business.

“Successful applicants will receive a weekly allowance of $300 and for students who live outside Brisbane, allowances will be made for travel expenses and accommodation and meals will be provided at a UQ residential college,” Professor Terry said.

“Each student will be supervised by a UQ research expert who will provide valuable advice and access to state-of-the-art equipment that may not have been previously available.

“The scholarships are an excellent vehicle to get students who are looking to pursue a career in research into the field and working towards their life goal.

“Even if students aren’t looking to have a career in research, being involved in the research process will provide them with a whole range of very valuable skills.

“Students will enter the 2009 academic year knowing they have spent the university summer break undertaking a worthwhile experience and contributing to the University’s research-intensive outcomes.”

Students may also be able to gain academic credit towards their undergraduate degree for their work within various research institutions, centres and schools.
