Students bring Halls to life

As the academic year draws to an end, the Halls of Residence at The University of Queensland’s Gatton campus have recognised students’ achievements at their Valedictory Dinner.

The Halls of Residence award $1000 scholarships in the following areas – academic, cultural, sporting and overall contribution to Halls.

The cultural award was presented to Jahnie Eaton, the sporting award to Belinda Crisp and Claire Wookey took home the most outstanding contribution to residential living scholarship.

The academic scholarship will be awarded next year, based on 2008 results.

Halls of Residence head Simon Scott said the awards provided an opportunity to reflect on the contributions that the students had made throughout the year.

“Each student within the Halls of Residence contributes to the spirit of halls,” Mr Scott said.

“The Valedictory Dinner is an opportunity to thank the students for bringing the Halls to life and also to reward the students that have excelled.”

Several students received Halls of Residence Awards for their contribution, service and sporting involvement within the Halls.

Residents of the year were also named for each of the halls Riddell, Thynne and Pitt.

Pitt Hall came out on top in both the cultural and sporting categories, securing the 2008 Residence Shield.
