The University of Queensland's Gatton campus welcomed some of its brightest new students at a recent event for academic scholarship recipients.

The Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science has this year awarded 15 students UQ Excellence Scholarships, valued at $6000 a year for the duration of the student's program, or UQ Merit Scholarships, providing $6000 for the first year of study.

Faculty Executive Dean Professor Roger Swift presented scholarship recipients with with certificates at a celebratory lunch at UQ Gatton's Foundation Building last week.

Excellence Scholarship recipient Hannah Avery, from St George, said receiving the scholarship was a positive start to university life.

"I was really excited to find out that I had received the scholarship. It will take a lot of pressure off my parents to assist with my living expenses," Ms Avery said.

"It was great to have UQ acknowledge my hard work and I am looking forward to the future challenges and life experiences that come with uni life."

Ms Avery is studying a Bachelor of Applied Science (Integrated Resource Management) and Bachelor of Agribusiness.
