UQ congratulates International Scholarship recipients

15 March 2011

The Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT) has awarded tuition fee scholarships to seven international students undertaking degrees with the faculty in Semester 1, 2011.

The faculty’s International Scholarship program attracts high-achieving international students from around the world to enrol in UQ programs in architecture, engineering and information technology.

EAIT Manager of International Development Brendon Lutwyche said the faculty was proud to support students in obtaining a tertiary education by providing the scholarships, which will fund 50 percent of program costs throughout each student's degree.

"This current scholarship round was extremely competitive and the faculty looks forward to welcoming the students and to them joining the vibrant and diverse cohort of international students already studying at the University,"Mr Lutwyche said.

The faculty has developed strong partnerships with a number of international universities and pathway institutions. The successful awardees in this round have studied previously at Arts et Metiers ParisTech, INTI International University College, Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and UQ Foundation Year.

The EAIT Faculty would like to congratulate Alvin Ewe, Warut Kaewtip, Fu Bao Kwan from Singapore, Eric Claus from France, Guang Yang Tang from Malyasia, Dunindu Lakshan Weerasinghe Thalpe Guruge from Sri Lanka and Le Minh Tri Phan from Vietnam on each obtaining an EAIT International Scholarship.

Commencing Bachelor of Information Technology student Alvin Ewe, who previously studied at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore, said it was due to UQ's generosity that his dream of studying abroad had come true.

"The amazing view from the Great Court is beautiful, creating a great location for academic excellence," Mr Ewe said.

The faculty's newest cohort of International Scholarship recipients will now join its RWH Hawken Scholars program, which provides the recipients of scholarships for academic excellence in the disciplines of engineering, architecture and IT with enhanced academic, industry and cultural experiences and opportunities.
