UQ to showcase advantages of postgraduate study

28 August 2012

The University of Queensland’s annual Postgraduate Advice Night will showcase a world of career-changing options.

This free evening on September 12, 2012 offers prospective postgraduate students a chance to ask the burning questions about postgraduate coursework and research. It will be held at the UQ Centre and Sir Llew Edwards building at the St Lucia campus from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Experts from UQ’s many faculties, schools and institutes will be available to answer questions about study options and how postgraduate qualifications can provide a strong basis for career advancement.

Professor Zlatko Skrbis, Dean of the Graduate School, said UQ provided postgraduate students with access to world-class experts and facilities that few tertiary institutions in Australia could match.

“We also provide numerous opportunities for students to develop career-focused skills that can give them an important edge over other graduates in the workplace,” he said.

“Our graduates are sought after by employers both in Australia and around the world. I would encourage any student who is interested in pursuing a career in cutting-edge research to attend the UQ Postgraduate Advice Night to learn how they can benefit from the UQ advantage.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and are welcome to explore the campus to experience the wide range of facilities and services available to students.

Seminars will be held throughout the evening, including opportunities at the Queensland Brain Institute and the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, study options at the UQ Business School, and an introduction to the Centre for Integrated Preclinical Drug Development.

UQ offers a range of postgraduate opportunities at all levels, including Honours, Graduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters by Coursework, Masters by Research (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Professional Doctorates.
