UQ rugby takes three in a row
The University of Queensland Rugby Football Club has claimed its third consecutive Doughty Shield.
“It’s our number one objective,” said Manager David Enfantie.
“It’s something everyone contributes to," he said.
The Doughty Shield was originally given to the Premiers, from its inception in 1929 until 1941, but in 1957 this was changed to represent teams at all levels including under-19s, with points accumulating through wins.
The shield was hotly contested again this year with Sunnybank and GPS pushing right to the end.
Final rankings: The University of Queensland 501, Sunnybank 458, GPS 454, Souths 378, Brothers 337, Easts 253, Norths 214, Wests 189, Logan City 85, Rugby Gold Coast 82, Redlands 42, Sunshine Coast Rugby Union 7.
