Innovation expert given key role at Imperial College

1 March 2013

An innovation expert who is an Honorary Professor at The University of Queensland Business School has been appointed as Vice-President of Imperial College London, one of the world’s top 10 universities.

Professor David Gann CBE is a frequent visitor to UQ Business School and works closely with Technology and Innovation Management Centre Director Professor Mark Dodgson, with whom he has produced four books and many articles on innovation management.

“David is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading authorities on innovation management and plays an important role in helping UQ Business School to stay at the international forefront of research,” Professor Dodgson said.

“His new role as Vice-President Development and Innovation shows just how seriously top universities are taking their strategic connections with business.

“We congratulate him on his well-deserved promotion and look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.”

Professor Gann last visited the UQ Business School in November 2012 to present a seminar on ‘smart cities’, outlining how digital data could reduce peak loads on infrastructure and transform the management of services in cities.

He has spent 10 years with Imperial College, where he is responsible for a large portfolio of research with firms including IBM, Atkins, Arup, and GSK and where he has built an international team in innovation and entrepreneurship ranked number one in Europe by the Financial Times.

A chartered civil engineer, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2010 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to engineering.
