Brothers revel in double scholarship success

Brothers Lexus and Jahk Hughes: UQ Gatton Past Students Association Scholarship winners.

Science student Lexus Hughes has followed in his brother’s footsteps, being awarded the University of Queensland Gatton Past Student’s Association Scholarship.

The scholarship will provide Lexus with $5000 a year to help with his studies during his program at The University of Queensland Gatton.

His brother Jahk won the scholarship in 2012 and is studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Science.

Lexus is also interested in pursuing a career with animals. He is enrolled in a Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Wildlife Science, and aspires to a career as a wildlife researcher.

“I have always loved science,” he said.

“I studied marine science, physics, chemistry and biology in senior.

The UQ Gatton Past Students Association has provided $85,000 to support seven students through their university studies over the past seven years

“I can’t thank the Past Students Association enough for the scholarship they have awarded to me and I appreciate everything they have done for me,” Lexus said.

“The scholarship will help enormously to cover my study materials and living on campus costs.”
