Efficiency and productivity in the spotlight

Topics ranging from primary school performance analysis to the effect bad loans have on bank efficiency will be on the agenda at a conference at The University of Queensland from 8 July.

The Asia-Pacific Productivity Conference is an annual showcase of the latest findings in efficiency and productivity in areas such as education, banking and finance, agriculture, and health and education.

It is being hosted by the Centre for Efficiency and Productivity Analysis and the UQ School of Economics at the UQ St Lucia campus from Tuesday to Friday (8-11 July).

Conference chair and School of Economics Associate Professor Valentin Zelenyuk said hosting the conference was a testament to the University’s economics research.

“It demonstrates our status as world leaders in efficiency and productivity analysis research,” he said.

“UQ is among few universities worldwide to have a relatively large dedicated group of leading academics specialising in this field.

“Bringing together academics, researchers and bright students in one space will promote the sharing of expertise and knowledge.”

Keynote speaker Harvard University Professor Dale W. Jorgenson will discuss Australia’s role in the World KLEMS initiative, which deals with the analysis of global growth and productivity patterns.

Theoretical and applied researchers in fields such as economics and econometrics, finance, management science and operations research will chair conference sessions.

The UQ School of Economics is among the top 50 research-focused economics departments worldwide.
