University of Queensland staff will be racing for research at The Brisbane Times City2South fun run on Sunday 14 June.

Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) researchers and supporters will run the 14km and 5km courses, raising much-needed funds for research into dementia, schizophrenia and other areas.

QBI Advancement and Communications Director Mikaeli Costello said there was an urgent need for neuroscience research funds.

“The clock is ticking for so many people in society with neurological diseases and we’re hitting the pavement to eradicate these illnesses,” Ms Costello said.

“QBI is researching pressing areas including  dementia, brain cancer, motor neuron disease and schizophrenia," she said.

“The money raised by our team and enthusiastic supporters will go directly to neuroscience research in Queensland.”

People interested in joining Team QBI and supporting its research can sign up at www.qbi.uq.edu.au/city2south (password qbi123) and enter the City2South at www.city2south.com.au/enter.

By setting up a fundraising page, participants choose a fundraising goal and ask their social networks to sponsor their efforts.

QBI has also launched an Everyday Hero page where people can fundraise to support the Institute’s priority research areas regardless of whether they are participating in an event or not.
