Forensics expert to speak on high-profile US crimes

The University of Queensland will host one of the world’s most respected forensic anthropologists when Dr Michael Finnegan delivers a guest lecture later this month.

Dr Finnegan, from Kansas State University, will visit Brisbane for the first time and present only one lecture during the trip - at UQ on Thursday 29 September.

Dr Carl Stephan from UQ’s School of Biomedical Sciences said the talk will offer a change of pace from the more cellular-focused lectures in the School of Biomedical Sciences seminar series.

“Dr Finnegan has worked on high-profile cases such as the Berdella serial homicides and he was also one of the scientists to confirm the grave of American outlaw Jesse James,” Dr Stephan said.

“Forensic anthropology is a growing area for our school so we are keen to absorb any lessons Dr Finnegan has for us when he shares his experiences from 47 years in consulting.”

“We’re very privileged to have Dr Finnegan visit and all who attend I am sure will be fascinated by his practical examples of skeletal analysis.”

The lecture will be held in the Prentice Building at the St Lucia campus (lecture hall 42-216) from 3pm to 4pm.

The public is welcome to attend the free lecture.
