UQ open on Friday

The University of Queensland will be open on Friday in the wake of severe weather across South-East Queensland.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Peter Høj said he understood some students and staff might not be able to attend due to storm damage, transport difficulties or childcare responsibilities, particularly as schools would be closed.

“The safety of our students and staff and their families remains our priority,” Professor Høj said. 

Academic Registrar Mr Mark Erickson said classes and other activities at all three campuses (St Lucia, Gatton and Herston) would operate.

"All campuses have been deemed safe and accessible," he said.

"It is intended that classes will run as scheduled but it is possible that some staff might not be able to attend campus to teach, due to factors outside their control.

"Unfortunately, this may require some classes to be cancelled, and every effort will be made to notify affected students.

"We regret any inconvenience this might cause."

Mr Erickson said students and staff should make allowances for possible delays in travel time. 

"And we do appreciate that some students may not be able to attend campus tomorrow due to flooding or family responsibilities," he said.
