UQ researchers receive $2.4 million funding

22 November 2022

Three University of Queensland research teams have been awarded $2.4 million from the Australian Research Council (ARC) to support their innovative research programs.

UQ is among 21 universities to be awarded research funding under the ARC’s $39 million Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities scheme.

The funding will be used to source infrastructure and equipment for high-quality research into:

  • High-Resolution Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Imaging and Spectroscopy led by Associate Professor Jeffrey Harmer, to establish a national network for EPR Imaging and Spectroscopy with microscopic and molecular resolution.
  • Nanocrystal Electron Diffraction led by Professor Bostjan Kobe, to establish an advanced micro-crystal electron diffraction (MicroED) facility, which will complement the already existing structural chemistry and biology facilities nationally.
  • Integrated High-Throughput Material Synthesis and Characterisation System led by Professor Lianzhou Wang, to develop an integrated mobile robotic system for rapid screening of functional nanomaterials, providing the Australian Advanced Manufacturing sector with opportunities in critical materials development for applications in clean energy, environment and health care.

The ARC scheme fosters collaboration, encouraging researchers to participate in cooperative initiatives to share expensive research infrastructure, equipment and facilities between higher education organisations and industry.
