UQ wins 2 awards at the AFR Higher Education Awards
The University of Queensland has proudly claimed top spots in Industry Engagement and Employability at the Australian Financial Review Higher Education Awards.
The awards recognise the sector’s contributions to Australians economic and social wellbeing, spotlighting institutions that are contributing to prosperity and quality of life.
UQ winners and finalists:

Winner, Industry Engagement – UQ Biosustainability Hub, led by Professor Esteban Marcellin for collaborating with global companies to transition to net zero, recycling greenhouse waste into useful materials such as green fuels, bioplastics and even clothing.

Joint Winner, Employability – Newish Communications, founded by Dr Nicolas Pontes, is Australia’s first student-run communication agency, giving students the opportunity to plan, manage and execute projects alongside the assistance of industry mentors and academics.

Finalist, Emerging Leadership – Dr Nikky LaBranche has driven sector-wide change through her research and advocacy on lung disease and dust-related hazards which have informed policies and improved mining safety.
