UQ wins 4 LSQ GENE Awards

University of Queensland researchers took home 4 awards at the prestigious Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ) GENE Awards.  

Now in their 16th year, the GENE Awards celebrate individuals and organisations driving innovation and growth in the sector. 

In total, there were 11 finalists from the University across 7 categories, recognising their contributions to human and animal health, agriculture, and biotechnology.    

2025 award winners for UQ: 

  • McCullough Robertson Industry Excellence Award – Professor Glenn King for his significant impact on the success of the Queensland life sciences industry. 

  • QIMR Woman of Influence Award – Professor Ala Tabor for her endeavours, passion and dedication to the Queensland life sciences sector.  

  • Radium Capital Emerging Innovator Award – De Motu Cordis for remarkable innovation as an early-stage venture in the life sciences sector. 

  • Rose-Anne Kelso Commemorative Award – Dr Lena Oestreich for her endeavours, passion and dedication to health and biomedical innovation. 

Other UQ staff and collaborators who were finalists were Mr Ben Hughes and Professor Timothy Mercer (Industry Excellence), Professor Naomi Wray (Woman of Influence), Dr Sabrina Burgener (Rose-Anne Kelson Commemorative Award) Nick Watts – Innovate Ag and Wonder of Science (Merck Life Sciences Rural and Regional Service) and Protagonist Therapeutics (Cytiva Company of the Year).
