UQ researchers among world’s most influential

The University of Queensland has ranked 1st in Australia for the number of researchers in the top 1% cited worldwide, meaning they are among the most referenced and influential academics in their field of study. 

This year, UQ researchers received 34 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) awards. 

On the global stage, UQ is the 34th most awarded institution.  

Professor Philip Hugenholtz earned two HCR awards for the seventh consecutive year, recognised in both Biology and Biochemistry, and Microbiology. 

UQ recipients of HCR 2025: 

  • Dr Maria Chuvochina – Cross-Field 

  • Professor Matthew Cooper – Pharmacology and Toxicology 

  • Professor Catherine Lovelock – Cross-Field 

  • Professor Naomi Wray – Cross-Field
