UQ subjects rank in top 10 globally

The University of Queensland has been named among the world’s best for the study of 51 subjects by global education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds – more than any other Queensland university.  

In the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, UQ maintained its position as first nationally and 2nd globally for sports-related subjects for the 6th year, and rose to 5th globally for mineral and mining engineering.  

This strong global standing reflects the quality of teaching and learning at UQ and its role in preparing the state’s skilled workforce for 2032 and beyond across health, sciences, engineering and technology, and arts and humanities.  

UQ ranked in the global top 50 for 16 subjects:   

  • Sports-related subjects (2)  
  • Mineral and Mining Engineering (5)  
  • Petroleum Engineering (15)  
  • Environmental Sciences (=18)   
  • Pharmacy and Pharmacology (22)  
  • Agriculture and Forestry (26)  
  • Psychology (27)  
  • Anatomy and Physiology (30)  
  • Hospitality and Leisure Management (31)  
  • Developmental Studies (=31)  
  • Veterinary Science (34)  
  • Chemical Engineering (36)  
  • Archaeology (38)  
  • Education (=41)  
  • Chemistry (=41)  
  • Geology (50)  

 The 2026 ranking analysed subject areas across more than 1900 institutions using data from academic and employer reputation surveys, research paper citations, the H-Index of research and international research networks.
