UQ subjects ranked in top 50 globally

  • The 2025 ranking analysed subject areas across 1,747 institutions using data including academic and employer reputation, citations to research papers, the H-Index of research, and international research networks
  • Once again, UQ ranked first nationally and second globally for Sports-Related Subjects
  • UQ also ranked sixth globally for Mineral and Mining Engineering and twelfth globally for Petroleum Engineering

The University of Queensland has maintained its ranking in the global top 50 for 20 academic subject areas in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Once again, UQ ranked first nationally and second globally for Sports-Related Subjects, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to advancing human movement, health technology and community wellbeing.  

The 20 subjects UQ ranked in the top 50 globally are: 

  • Sports-related courses (2) 
  • Mineral and Mining Engineering (6) 
  • Petroleum Engineering (12) 
  • Environmental Sciences (15) 
  • Agriculture and Forestry (15) 
  • Hospitality and Leisure Management (26) 
  • Pharmacy and Pharmacology (28) 
  • Psychology (34) 
  • Veterinary Science (35) 
  • Dentistry (36) 
  • Chemical Engineering (=39) 
  • Geology (40) 
  • Education (=41) 
  • Earth and Marine Sciences (=44) 
  • Development Studies (45) 
  • Nursing (45) 
  • Chemistry (=46) 
  • Geophysics (=46) 
  • Archaeology (=47) 
  • Anatomy & Physiology (=48).
