Funeral for University footballer

A funeral service will be held at Mungindi Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 30 at 11am for a University of Queensland Gatton College student who died following a weekend football game at Warwick.

Third year bachelor of business (agribusiness) student Mark Frederick Barlow, 23, of Forest Hill died after an A-grade representative game in the Darling Downs Rugby Union competition.

Mr Barlow was a 1997 executive member of the Agribusiness Club and treasurer of the Gatton College Rugby Union Club. He was also director of social activities for the University of Queensland Gatton College Student Association.

Gatton College director Professor Craig Pearson said the University had offered counselling services to Mr Barlow?s fellow students and was making arrangements for classmates to attend his funeral. Staff members and Gatton Rugby Club members will also attend.

"We were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of this promising young student in a representative A-Grade game," Professor Pearson said.

"The University extends its sympathy to family and friends at this tragic loss."

Student Association president Renee Mortimer said Mr Barlow was well respected and he would be sadly missed by his fellow students and friends.
