Students should watch for QTAC dates

5 January 2001

Students awaiting results for the first and major round of offers by the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre this month should keep several important dates in mind, according to University of Queensland Manager, Admissions, Claron Driscoll.

Today, January 5 (by 4.30pm) is the last date for school-leavers to change preferences via the 1900 971 133 line for the major offer round for tertiary places.

Ms Driscoll said students could telephone 1900 971 130 on Thursday January 18, 2001 (after 1 am) to find out if they had been offered a place. Applicants can phone 1900 971 120 after that time to check their ranks and cut-offs.

The major round offers and enrolment packages will be mailed on Friday, January 19.

Students receiving offers in the major round have until Monday 29 January 2001, to respond by phoning 1900 971 130.

January 29 is also the closing date for people wishing to change their preferences through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) for consideration in the February 7 offer round.

Ms Driscoll said people who were not offered a place in their ideal programs should not panic as there were a number of alternative pathways for improving their chances to enter their desired program at a later date.

A full explanation of admission requirements for UQ programs is contained in the University's Admissions Guide. Ms Driscoll said the University expected to have about 8000 places available for entry-level to the University's St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses this year.

Indications are that popular University of Queensland programs with applicants for the first QTAC round will include animal studies, e-commerce, business (management), commerce, behavioural studies, engineering, physiotherapy and veterinary science.
