UQ programs showcased at TSXPO 2001

4 July 2001

University of Queensland staff will attend TSXPO in Brisbane this month to help prospective students make important life decisions and find their way through the tertiary information maze.

They can advise students about the University's extensive range of high quality programs and course offerings (including new programs for 2002) and on entry requirements and applying for programs. TSXPO will be held at the John Reid Pavilion, RNA Showgrounds on Saturday July 14 and Sunday July 15 from 10am to 4pm.

"TSXPO is a good opportunity for people to sample the range and depth of University of Queensland programs, and to ask questions about everything from accommodation, admissions, program content and quotas, to campus facilities," University Admissions Manager Claron Driscoll said.

"The University offers the State's widest range of high-quality programs, with more than 5500 courses available through 350 programs," she said.

Ms Driscoll said The University of Queensland offered the most diverse choice of programs in Queensland, ranging from world class programs in Architecture, Business, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, Health, Humanities and Law to Primary Industries, Science, Social Sciences and Technology.

She said the University was experiencing strong demand for its range of dual degree programs, one of the most comprehensive of any Australian university.

"Dual degrees are increasingly popular because they give people two areas of specialisation and consequently better employment prospects," she said. "Most dual degrees take between four to five and a half years to complete which is much quicker than doing one degree for three years, then deciding to do another and taking another three or more years to complete. All approved dual degrees are HECS-liable and if someone is eligible for youth allowance, they can receive the payment for the duration of the dual program."

Ms Driscoll said TSXPO also provided a chance for students who were unsure of their QTAC program preferences to get advice about their applications.

Mature aged people considering tertiary study in 2002 may also like to attend the Adult Tertiary Entry Expo to be held at the Brisbane City Hall, Monday, August 27 from 5pm to 8pm. Admission is free and all QTAC participating institutions will be there to provide advice and guidance for further studies.
