UQ Ipswich Open Day lifts the lid on ultra-modern study opportunities

Student numbers have quadrupled and facilities have mushroomed at UQ Ipswich since its 1999 opening — and it will all be on show for the public at Open Day 2002.

The campus is one of the first purpose-built Web-enabled campuses in Australia. And it will be buzzing from 10am-2pm on Sunday, August 18 with course information sessions for prospective students and dozens of other attractions for young and old.

Food will be available, including a free barbecue 10.30am–12.30pm sponsored by Triple M Radio. Other free activities include lectures and tutorials, student-led tours of the heritage-rich campus, displays and children’s rides. Parking will be free and free buses will run every 30 minutes from Ipswich Railway Station.

Contemporary Studies will give away native trees and the Library will run Internet sessions for first-timers and experienced users.

Admissions staff will be on hand to explain entry requirements (including alternative entry) and how to earn places at UQ Ipswich by improving entry scores, changing programs or transferring from other institutions.

UQ Ipswich students train for careers in ultra-modern areas such as business management, education, electronic commerce, information environments, multimedia design, social science, behavioural studies, business communication and contemporary studies.

And Open Day will provide a taste of just what that training involves.

The day’s activities include an Internet quiz with a chance to win a speech dictation program (Electronic Commerce), an interactive 3D multiplayer game and free digital photomontages (Information Environments and Multimedia Design), a workshop on Death by Chocolate (Business Communications) and lectures on Understanding bloke, Measuring human behaviour and Profiling Criminology (Behavioural Studies).
